MEDIA RESEARCHER & EDUCATOR

I'm an associate professor in the School of Communication at the University of Nebraska Omaha. I earned a Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of Iowa and a M.S. in journalism with a graduate certificate in gender, women's and sexuality studies from Iowa State University. My professional experience was built in news and features reporting; PR and advertising firm work; nonprofit programming; AmeriCorps national service; and medical research coordination.

I research digital media / strategic communication, gender, and the body. My areas of interest include health, popular culture, and philanthropy / entrepreneurial communication.

I offer media literacy classroom visits for kindergarteners in Title 1-designated elementary schools in OPS (Omaha Public Schools), the largest district in the state of Nebraska.
